Biography

Roxy Jezel is Professor of Animal and Poultry Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. She received a B.S. degree in Animal Science from The Ohio State University and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Breeding from the University of Nebraska. She has been active in the area of livestock genetic resource management and conservation for over 15 years and has been a frequent contributor to the F.A.O. Global Strategy for the Management of Farm Animal Genetic Resources. Her international experience includes programs and consultancies in Australia, Brazil, China, India, South Africa, and Spain. Her current research involves study of the genetic control of seasonal breeding and of resistance to intestinal roundworms in sheep, support for the U.S. National Sheep Improvement Program, and the development of improved hair sheep germplasm.
